6 Oris Aquis versions compared by size
The Aquis is Oris's modern dive watch, and the hardest part of buying one is choosing a size. The same basic design comes in cases from 36 mm up to 45 mm and beyond, and a few millimeters change the whole character of the watch.
There's also a movement choice. Most Aquis models use a Swiss automatic built on a proven Sellita base, while some use Oris's own Calibre 400, which stores about five days of power and is designed to be strongly resistant to magnetism. Here are the current versions, roughly from smallest to largest.

The 36 mm Aquis gives you the full dive watch spec, a rotating bezel, 300 meters of water resistance and a sapphire crystal, in a size that suits slimmer wrists. The blue dial on a rubber strap feels summery and relaxed.
It's sold as a ladies' model, but plenty of people with smaller wrists of any kind wear this size.
Best for: Smaller wrists, or anyone who wants a diver that doesn't dominate the arm.

2. Aquis on black rubber, earlier generation
Oris Aquis Automatic Black Dial Black Rubber Ladies Watch 733-7652-4725RS · Reference 733-7652-4725RS
This is an earlier generation Aquis with a black dial and a black rubber strap. It's the stealthier option, and the skeleton case back lets you see the automatic movement.
Rated to 300 meters with a unidirectional rotating bezel, it's a proper diver without the extra bulk of the newer, larger models.
Best for: People who want a low-key black diver.

For a lot of people, 39 mm is the sweet spot. It's big enough to have real presence and small enough to sit comfortably on most wrists all day.
This one has a black dial, a coin edge bezel, a rubber strap and the Oris Calibre 733 automatic. Water resistance is 300 meters, with a sapphire crystal and a display back.
Best for: First-time Aquis buyers who aren't sure what size to pick.

This is where the Aquis gets serious. The Calibre 400 is Oris's in-house automatic, with roughly five days of power reserve and strong resistance to magnetism. Oris also backs it with a longer warranty than its standard movements.
The 41.5 mm case, ceramic bezel and blue dial on rubber make it feel modern and sporty. The display back shows off the movement.
Best for: Buyers who want the in-house movement without going up to the biggest case.

The same Calibre 400 in a larger 43.5 mm case, 13 mm thick, with a blue dial and ceramic bezel. It has much more wrist presence than the 41.5 mm version.
If you've tried on a 41.5 and thought it looked small on you, this is the one to go for.
Best for: Larger wrists that want the in-house movement.

6. Aquis 45 mm, 500 meters

The big one. A 45 mm steel case, 500 meters of water resistance, a ceramic bezel insert and a steel bracelet with a diver extension, so it fits over a wetsuit.
It's a lot of watch, and it's meant to be. If you actually dive, or you just like a bold watch, nothing else on this list comes close.
Best for: Real divers, or anyone who loves a big tool watch.

How to pick your size
As a rough guide, wrists under about 16.5 cm usually suit 36 to 39 mm, average wrists suit 39 to 41.5 mm, and larger wrists can carry 43.5 mm and up. Lug-to-lug length matters as much as diameter, so if you can try one on, do.
If you're deciding between the standard automatic and the Calibre 400, it comes down to whether five days of power reserve and the longer warranty are worth the higher price to you. Both are excellent watches.
